I belive that most people in the usa grow these trees from cuttings comming from trees that are inported from tropical countries... hope this helps...john
I'll jump in for Bob, and he'll correct me if I'm wrong....but the right conditions and age most likely refers to the tree in habitat with full run of its roots.
I highly, highly doubt that it will ever fruit without sunlight on your dining room table.
You'd be hard pressed to find *any* plant that would fruit in such conditions.
Back again, Bob said he has seen fruit, remember he lives in vietnam you can not get any more tropical than that. inside with no sun you will have very long internodes big spaces between leaves.put your tree out side until the temp. gets below 50 degs. then bring it inside close to a window with a humity tray with rocks and waterin it not letting the water touch the bottom of your pot.... correct me if i am wrong...hope this helps john
Yes, figs flower. All Ficus trees produce specialized structures called 'syconia' or drupes, which are comprised of hundreds minute male and female flowers on the inside. Essentially, what we call fruit are an inside-out inflorescence (flower structure).
The requirements are several: first, they must have reached a sufficient ontogenetic age (must have wood old enough that it is in the mature/reproductive phase), and must be grown under appropriate cultural conditions, among which are temperature/light/fertility/moisture levels. Since these conditions can vary by species, it's up to you to research the specific conditions your plant(s) prefer and do your best to provide them.
