Grape Bonsai Tree

Hello all,

I am looking for some help from someone who has a grape bonsai tree. This is my second bonsai, I killed my first one so I need some guidance. My tree is growing like crazy and the new shoots are getting very long. I need to prune some of the longer shoots before it gets way out of hand. Can some one tell me how to prune the shoots with out damaging the tree? When is the best time to prune the shoots and which is the best method to use?

Thanks in advance for any help!!
Joe

Hi Joe;In case you haven`t seen my web page, check out the Vines page. This might help some.Try to leave some of the longer shots grow till the wood starts to mature to a "brownish" color.Wire or place "tendrils" so they meet & tie together for support if they are still tender.I see commercial growers cut extended growth [which matures after about 3 months]with a sickel mower,in our area starting by Aug 1st. Hope this helps & ask if further questions need answers--Z
