This is the ROR Ficus and the water lettuce I just found.

After you "generate html" at photobucket, copy the first or the second codes for this Forum. The first code will be a clickable thumbnail, the second code will be full sized.

Can't wait!

Josh, that is beeootiful! Also a terrific example of how to choose the right size of rock for a tree - 90% of them are too small, but yours is perfect. I do find the companion (what is it - pic unclear) to be distracting, however, and wonder if a tiny 'pool' wouldn't be more relaxing in the space.

Hey, Lucy, I can't take credit - this one is Head Cutter's. I just added the html code to the address of the picture he posted.

But I agree it's awesome! And I wish it were mine....!

Great balance.

Geeez thanks guys, I can't take credit for the beginning of the tree but I will take credit for the end product in the future.
Lucy...the 'companion' is a smaller stone with a white crane (the symbol of Viet Nam) taking off.

I've been looking for small water lettuce and finally found some so that's what's in the water as well. Moving it to full sun began a bloom of alge and the water lettuce should slow that down (I hope).

'Pool"??? It's growing in water so I don't think I have to add a pool. The pot is old and leaking so it will be repotted maybe during the monsoon season.
The pot is almost 3' X 2', the tree is almost 2.5' high and has a spread of close to 36".

And Josh...thanks for the advice. Now that I can make it work I'll post a few more pics :))

A better pic for Lucy, you will also notice wire marks. These guys have a habit of putting wire on then just forgetting it, most of the smaller ones have grown out but the bigger ones will take a while longer.

Oops, must have missed the part about the water - I can now see the floater plants (have you ever tried growing Taxodium?) and (just barely) the crane on the rock's side.

Cypress or mangrove would be incredible in such a setting.

RE: If this works...

Yes it would, we have mangrove here but the leaf size would be too large. Nice thought anyway.
The 'water lettuce' was a happy accident, I'd been looking for something like that but couldn't find it here anywhere. A friend's father took a trip to Dak Lap and brought her back some for the big pond in her cafe. I went to eat breakfast there last week and saw it!!!! Left with a little baggie full for the pot and a very happy boy!!

So far it has worked, the alge bloom is down to nothing. They won't grow much bigger but will have babies like crazy. Sooooo...I'm thinking about that smaller Jasmine on an island in a big pot...surrounded partially by a pond...and...yep
