Hi, yes the pot goes on the pebbles in the tray of water, but the trick is to keep the water below the top of the stones so it never gets into the pot and rots roots. Satsuki are not really cold hardy to Pa. and you may have a problem in winter as it will need to be kept somewhere at around 40-45 F. for about 2 mos. as well as acclimatization at either end, a trick unless you have such a place, though an attached garage plus sinking in a big pot of mulch with its own drainage could help. It likes to be watered often, though don't keep the compost soggy wet all the time of course. Read all you can and hopefully find a local club to join - the best place to learn.
