| Like it says I've moved and have decided to become active once more in here. I'm Bob Johnston, late of the US and have now moved to Viet Nam and am living in the south central part of the country. The town is called Tuy Hoa and is a real hotbed for Bonsai...who knew?
So, after living and producing Bonsai in Pennsylvania, I am now knee deep in tropicals and sub-tropicals. It is hard to believe the awsome range of plants available here and they grow like weeds!!!!! I may post some pics of some that I have started to work and (if I can figure out how) can post a link to a Facebook page I've set up. I should mention that the average price for a LARGE piece of pre-bonsai stock is around $12 US and a partly started piece ranges from that to about $25. |

| Bob, I hope your stay in Vietnam is a pleasant one. It is certainly a beautiful country. I spent my time in Vietnam about 300-350 miles north of Tuy Hoa in Phu Bai and in Quang Tri. The green rice paddies are a favorite memory. There is a jasmine vine in Vietnam which has thick, dark green leaves with white blooms which smell like citrus blossoms. You must get one for your garden. How far is your home from the South China Sea. Watch out for typhoons. I weathered three, one a direct hit. Good luck and let us know how your garden grows. - Terry |

| Hi Terry, I'm a 3 tour Vet and a river rat, spent all of my time in I-Corps too, from the South Cau Di, near Hoi An to the Cua Viet right on the DMZ. Tuy Hoa is a sleepy little town right on the coast, no tourists, no polution, lots of quiet. We have a long wet season with some flooding but haven't been hit by a typhoon here in 300 years I'm told. When I was here before we weathered 2 up north so I know what you mean. One of those vines would be out of the question LOL...I have 2 Jasmine trees as Bonsai and have found that I have an alergy to them...irony I guess. |
