very miniature lavender

Just wondering....I have a 2 yr old plant of compacta lavender that grew from a seedling that is extremely tiny, stays tiny (2" tall, needles 1/8th inch long)...would it be of interest to a bonsai person? It seems to be extremely hardy,
surviving our zone 4 winter outside (with good snow cover). It doesn't make much of an impact in my garden...you can hardly notice it!

When you say 'would it be of interest...', are you thinking of giving it to someone who does bonsai? Nice thought! Most bonsai, however, are trained and developed from larger specimens, because they have fat trunks that make them look old, and the tops are cut back and new smaller branches grown - actually a more complicated process, but that's the idea. But if you're lavender is mature and looks old and interesting, it could qualify for a miniature bonsai (a category), and if someone knows what they're doing they might be very interested, but in the spring. Now is not the time to dig it up at all.

I have just gotten interested in herb bonsai and ordered some lavender to try. It is good to know that lavender is winter hardy. Thanks, Zack

Some one may also be interested in it as an accent plant, for a bonsai display.

Hey, Zack - if you're wanting a hardy lavender, be careful what species you get. Some are not as hardy as others. The English lavenders (Lavandula angustifolia) winter over well here in zone 6, but Spanish lavenders and Sweet lavenders do not. You might check over on the Herbs forum for more info & sources, if you're really interested!
