If you are going to be hit by a hurricane your plants will be the your least of worries.

When Hurricane Charlie and then Hurricane Wilma hit us, we moved our plants inside and kept the large ones on the lanai. We moved them in not to save them but to save damage on our house, cars and ourselves from flying objects.
