How do I prepare my indoor bonsai for dormancy?

I made the mistake of ordering an eight year old calamondin right before the scheduled dormancy period starts. My original plan was to keep it indoors year round, but after some research I discovered it needs dormancy to survive. If this is true, how should I prepare my tree for winter? Should I place it in my garage through autumn, and then move it outdoors for the cold season? Or should I take a different route entirely. Also, how will I know when it goes into full dormancy? Will it drop its leaves, or is this tree an evergreen species? Another thing I'm worried about is congusing death with dormancy. What are the signs of a tree dying and how can you spot them during dormancy? I apologize if these questions have been asked before, but I couldn't find specifics answers so I thought I'd ask. If anyone has experience with this species, how do you normally handle it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
