I seriously suggest you ask the question over at www.bonsaitalk.com because I think you need a consensus of answers - I'm not sure enough about this to want to chance your tree!

hi, sose.. what you prop. have are mealybugs. i have 2 fuk. teas and had a realy bad dose of bugs in the winter last year. they almost killed them. i used a prod. called "Safer" its a insect killing soap. it comes in a concentrate, and ready to use out of a spray bottle. which ever you use just read the directions and make sure you spray under the leaves as well as the tops. i sprayed mine till they were dripping wet.. and again the following week and it worked GREAT. spray before u bring them in for winter...

Safer's isn't meant for mealybugs, but for spider mites. Neem oil is better for mealies, but may not be good for the tree, which is why I suggested she check first for more answers. If it is mealies (and not aphids, for instance) then the problem is that the soil isn't gritty enough to let water drain quickly (and the pot may be sitting soaking back up drain water, which is wrong too) then that is what attracts mealies. Fukiens do need to be watered fairly often, but you can't have soil that's just always wet all through, and a faster draining mix is the answer.
