I'm new to this forum and I thought I would post here to ask the experts. I recently purchased a Serissa that looked in really rough shape, but I wanted a good challenge.

Upon closer inspection at home, it seems as though the trunk is dead, but it is still producing foliage on top. Is it possible that the trunk is dead, but that there can still be growth on the branches? I've scratched the truck down a few millimeters, but it appears whitish-brown instead of green. Opinions as to whether this is a lost cause?
