bonsai watering technique?

Hi

I am pretty new to bonsai and have brought myself a chinese jade and brush cherry (eugenia) for starting. The biggest problem right now is that I brought a watering can from Home Depot where the water comes out as a showering effect but then soil still comes out of the bonsai pot. I have brought myself some bonsai mix from the place and have to replace some soil every time I water. Am I doing something wrong or is this a problem that everyone encounters from watering?

maybe try with a can with a smaller spout? I had the same problem and went with a cup at the roots, pouring in small spurts until I felt like the soil was moist enough.

I was going to go get a fancy watering can, but the cup is working much better than I thought it would :)

Do you have screen or netting covering the holes in the pot?

You need a watering can with a fine rose you can direct upward so the water falls down in a fine shower, or a water brake for your hose, like this one from Masakuni.
