Coral Bark Maple Air Layering/Propogation

Earlier this season I started air layering a coral bark maple. Only a few weeks ago did it starting rooting. Its has developed some, but not extensive, roots.

The tree from which I am propagating is a container tree, so I will move it into my garage for the winter. My problem is that I don't know whether I should cut my air layer limb before winter or not.

On the one hand I am not sure the roots are well developed enough to sustain the air layer limb on their own. On the other hand I don't know if leaving the air layer container on through the winter will result in root rot, given how the air layer container holds moisture.

Does anyone have any experience with this problem or any thoughts?

Thanks!

-Brendon
