As I'm reading books....

I am getting conflicting information from them about seed planting. I have some crabapple seeds (Sorry, but I'm not sure what kind of them. I hope this doesn't affect the answer), and one book says I should plant it in late Fall, but the other says I should plant it in Spring. I have searched through internet sites and they say the same things.

Then the ones who say plant in Fall, says that i need to cover it with leaves and twigs because of my zone, but then it tells me that it needs good light. The pot sizes also vary.
