Hey everyone,

I received this Willow Leaf Ficus yesterday from an online source. The base is 3 inches and it has two branches sprouting from the base that are each a little over an inch thick. I plan on creating a mame tree out of it, so I just thought I'd share it with you all.

My plans, cut the branch on the right off, which should trigger buds to form in the orange area, pick one of those buds and make it the new leader (blue arrow), then remove the branch on the left. Super taper should be achieved from doing this:

Thoughts?

These air layer easily. Why not take two above where you plan to cut and you will have 3 trees.

Yes they do layer easily, but they also root easily as well. Air layering would only set me back on the design of the tree when I can easily just chop it and root the branches.

And besides, I've already chopped it ;)

That left trunk will eventually come back more, I just wanted to reduce the height for now.
