Bougainvillea Styling Help

Hi All,

I'm piggybacking off of my previous post about the soil conditions of the same tree. I think this tree is really interesting, but I'm having some trouble conceptualizing the end design.

I'm thinking a nice full canopy with the larger side branch filled out as well. Then smaller branching coming off the "elbow" of the higher branch.

The other option would be to chop the top completely where the trunk splits and make the lower branch the canopy. I just hate cutting such a large interesting branch.

I know there is some awkward trunk taper, so I'm going to let any backbudding at the soil line run free so the base will fatten. I just don't like how the two branches are the same thickness.

I'm a little lost -- any ideas would be great. I know it's not the right time of year to prune this type of tree, so I'd be waiting at least one growing season to take any drastic action.

Thanks everyone!
