And your trees really don't rot? Are they just growing bareroot on rocks, or ??

That one is in a mix of coarse sand, stone (Basalt chips) and some ground coconut shell. Most of them are in a mix of coarse sand and the Basalt rock chips, about a 60/40 mix, a few in pure sand. They all drain very well and yes, don't seem to care.

Of course they also go through a very hot rest of the year when they are watered two and three times a day.

The 'midia' drains very well, it may stay moist but doesn't hold water to any extent. I know that Al would bring on his thing about 'parched water' but it just doesn't happen.

I have dealt with some root rot however, it's been during the heigth of the monsoon season and not much at all.
