A year later for tree

Some may remember this tree (have no idea of what it is), was origianally in a butt-ugly bunjin pot but good enough to allow it to grow roots and stay healthy.

A friend here had me do work on all of his trees, mostly average sized pre-Bonsai his brother had given him. I kept 2 for doing the work, this was one. I didn't have any idea of how it would react to being grown in water but it seems to love it.

The tray had been sitting around for a while. Now that the weather has moderated I decided to move it into the tray. Looks a lot better now (I think anyway).

Also the second time it's been wired. I've defoliated it about 3 times, the leaves come back about the same size so that's as small as they're gonna get.

Size: tray is 22" in dia., top of rock is 15", spread of tree is 18".

Just something (the tree) to mess with, been having trouble with PB for a while. Went in to look around but can't find where to change settings also, picture size has been reduced in the past year. My guess is they are changing things to push a switch to the 'Pro' area.

Sweet I was planning on growing a Ficus virens as a Ariel root style, where it would grow on a porous rock and overlap into a water dish. I was just unsure as to if it would take to an semi aquatic style like a willow tree can. Here's a beautiful picture of one at a Vietnamese Bonsai show that got me stuck on the idea. There are some great other ones but this one took the cake in my book.

That is a nice pic, very nice Bonsai for here. I have a large ficus, semi-cascade, growing root over rock in water. Have had it for about 5 years now. While they do well in the tropics I don't see a reason that they wouldn't grow well in other areas.

Here the water evaporates pretty fast so it doesn't have a chance to get brackish or stale. You may have to flush the pot out on occasion to keep it semi-fresh.

In your area you could over-winter in a well lit area of the house then move it outside for the summer.
