Can anyone please advise me on what to do w/ my poor bonsai? I came home the other day and noticed that all of her leaves were drooping, sagging, hanging down only, etc., something that has never happened before. Then today I noticed that the ends of the limbs are turning black, or dark. I have tried looking up possible problems or reasons for this but I have had no luck. Does anyone know what's wrong? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks. I also took some pictures but I don't know how to post them up here. I can email them if necessary.

What kind of tree is it? Where do you keep it? How long have you had it? How often do you water it? What is it potted in? No one can help if they don't have this important information.

It is a ficus. I keep it inside but by the window so it can get sunlight during the day. I've had it for two full years. I usually water it about once a week, depending on if it needs it. It's potted in soil...I don't know any details about that b/c I got it already potted. And like I said before, I have never had any problems w/ the plant since I've had it and I haven't done anything to change the way I care for it.

To begin with most ficus are very easy and forgiving to care for, you know this because you kept it alive (in the house) for 2 years. From what you describe whatever happened was catistrophic (ie: happened all at once from a major problem). I've never had one where the ends of the branches turned dark/black so that one beats me. It almost sounds like a case of root-rot where it all caught up at once but that would be very rare. Normally when there is a problem the tree/plant will go downhill in stages, not fail all at once. I'd take it out of the pot and check the roots, cut back any which show rot or are soft then re-pot and see what happens. If there is life it should begin to put out new growth. While you're at it make sure the pot drain holes are open and the soil/pot are draining well. Bob

Bob's advice is all sound. I wonder if the tree got cooked in the window under direct sun. Also watering once a week may be too little for a Ficus. I water mine in the greenhouse daily or every other day depending on species. If you repot make sure the new soil drains really well. Use mostly pumice or scoria with some 1/4" orchid bark mixed in.
