| I planted this in the yard 2 years ago. I've heard they love the Oklahoma climate and develop nice buttress roots because of our constant wind.
Early this spring a madman with a self propelled mower whacked the snot out of it. I wasn't interested in leaving it in the yard at that point and it gave me a good reason to do something else with it.
I put it in this 3 gallon Rootmaker pot and let it grow unrestricted all summer.
The trunk chop was done at 7 1/2 inches from the soil line with the intent of doing an informal upright about twice that height.
I'm not sure that's still the plan. I may let it grow another year unrestricted and then trunk chop again much lower down and work towards a sumo style.
The root spread is 5 inches. I like the tree a lot and think the scar adds character. But I'm afraid if I grow the tree out, it will heal itself and the scar will disappear.
That's why I'm leaning towards something small where that might not happen. The scar is high enough on the trunk where rot shouldn't be a problem.

| I wonder if you scrape the bark around the scar (neatly :-), let it dry and Min-wax it if it would keep it from closing over... |
