good species for a mame bonsai ?

ive had a small 2 1/2 inch bonsai pot that i have really wanted to fill for a while i9 have put thyme and jade in it before but i dont have any good looking jade that is small enough to put in it right now and i can only buy thyme in the spring when they sell it for gardens and stuff . so does anyone know any other species that could make a nice mame bonsai?
p.s. the thyme always died cuz i forgot to water one day and that was the end but both times it was becuase i left for the weekend and my mom somehow remembered to water the cacti but forgot about the bonsai lol |

| Kingsville boxwood make nice mame.they look old when small..good luck,john |

| I agree that the Kingsville boxwood would be a good choice. I think they might be hard to find however. I would suggest a small Cotoneaster or Chinese elm as possibilities that might be easier to find. A Shimpaku juniper would also be nice and a little more drought resistant. Good luck, Jack |

| My good friend has a five-inch Cotoneaster that is in bloom right now, with berries on the branches. Very nice little plants! Josh |

| Most species that are used for Bonsai can be used for mame. In most cases you want something with a smaller leaf so the proportion looks well design wise. Just remember that anything that fruits or flowers will really rob the plant of strength if you let it go overboard with that. Most keep the production of fruit/flowering to a minimum. Bob |
