| I am a new bonsai owner. I got this plant recently (it is a Serissa Serissoides - Snow Rose?) but it is 8 years old and has been in training for 5. It is my first bonsai. Anyway, i've been watering him and spraying the leaves. I haven't soaked the pot yet. I've had him for about 2 months. The reason i am posting is that one of his branches seems to be doing really well, with green leaves etc but the other branch has no leaves. It did have leaves but they have since shriveled up and fallen off. I know this plant is deciduous, and have been told the leaves will fall off and grow back, but it seems odd that the same branch attached to one trunk and in the same conditions would be in such different states. Is it something I am doing? Is it just how this plant is?
Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to directly add a picture but here is a link. |

| I looked at your picture and the tree looks to me like it is not getting enough light. According to Paul Lesniewicz in his book Indoor Bonsai, Serissa need a lot of light. He also says that branch dieback may be due to uneven watering which creates dry spots where the roots die. Since you are new to bonsai I would suggest that you find a bonsai club in your area where you can get some help. You can probably find a club on line if you just Google something like "bonsai clubs" and your state or city. I belong to three bonsai clubs and have learned a lot. I don't keep Serissa though because I like my trees to be outdoors. Jack |
