| I have had my boganvilla bonsai for two months and I have no new growth but im not really loosing leaves so should i prune it back I have no clue I just no my last one lost its leaves and didn't get new growth so i no that i need some even if i have leaves. Now I water very lil just like orchid so when its dry i drench it good that when it dry do it again but now that i started using a fertilizer my soil has gotten mold growing where the soil meets the container. I pretty sure it will grow every where if i wouldn't pick the mold of with my fingers. Now I don't have any pebbles on top of my soil i don't know if that matters. So I could really use some help and so answers because i'v read every thing on the mold topic and i cant even find any thing about a plant not spouting only thing that i could find where ones that went into shock and then didn't sprout. so thank you and please help. |

| Hi, for one thing, bougies do like to get dry between waterings, but if they're not in the right soil, it won't help much. Pebbles don't belong on top of the soil, but completely mixed in with it, to the extent that they make up most of it, with organics (compost, orchid bark, not peaty potting soil) being only a very small part, so water flows right through and, of course, you may have to water more often in summer, but with fewer consequences. You shouldn't have mold on a dry mix! How's the air circulation there - I hope you're not trying to grow it in an aquarium. Is it getting a lot of intense light all day long? Is it in a ceramic container glazed on the inside (much better to be in something like terra cotta)? A little more information would help. But do remember that now your tree may be having it's annual rest for a few weeks, not true dormancy, but lack of growth and a need for less frequent watering (until about February - less frequent, though of course still needing water at some point). |
