Definitely, but it does require more fussing than others because of its somewhat odd lighting requirements. Some say they don't bother with those (14 full hrs of pitch black darkness nightly from early summer through Oct.) and others don't respect its need to stay fairly dry once the fall rolls around and leaves are lost - it really helps to keep it in a cool (dark) place then. Also, you do need to work at reducing the leaf sizes over time.

Thanks! I don't worry about the lightning requirements. I let it do it's thing naturally. It goes outside in full sun when nightime temps hit about 50 and comes in when they drop to 50. During it's indoor time, it sits in a sunny south window. Right now, the only leaves left are the yellow colored ones (not really the bloom) and the blooms/bracts. It colors up every year though not as densely as the store bought ones. It has leaves all year.

Would certainly be an interesting experiment. I grow them as yard plants ,more of a shrub than Bonsai lol.
have never been able to keep them in pots so can't offer any advice. I think the coloring is more dependant on temps than light levels but even in florida we get the variation in day length for sure. Good luck with it and keep us informed how it goes?? gary
