why are my plants dying?

I need serious help with my calamondin and rosemary bonsais. I'm overwintering them in my room. They get about 4 hours of sunlight and 4-6 of artificial light. With my rosemary, the leaves are turning brown in patches, usually starting from the base of the leaf and continuing through the whole leaf. It's almost bald! My calamondin is worse. The leafs have dried and are crinkly. They've all folded up. It was doing fine until last week. I gave it some more water and nothing happened, so I laid off the water and it's been getting worse still. The soil's still pretty moist so I don't want to water it anymore. Any ideas what could be going on?

Yes, dont water them and boost your artificial light up to 8 hours. That would give the plants 12 hours of light, that would be good. This light, is it high lumen or a 'grow light'? If its just a regular light go and buy a grow light.
Tell me if they have had any changes, such as lighting or anything like that in the past few weeks or when this started to happen. If every thing has been the same and nothing has changed and your getting the leaf drop, I would transplant, you may have root rot. Calamondin need to have the soil to dry all the way before watering. Before you transplant and you do discover root rot you have to treat the roots then, dont forget that.

When was the last time you transplanted? What kind of soil did you use for the calamondin, they like sandy gritty soil. My calamondin grows in 100% profile and does execelent! I would suggest using that type of soil. It says damp or less, maybe humid and drys out in a day or 2 in direct sun. Great stuff. Anyway. Answer these questions and we can help solve the mystry.

Rosemary is almost a desert plant. It grows wild out here (southern california) without supplemental watering once established. Make sure you let the soil dry out and keep the plant warm. I have rosemarys sitting in pots out by my pool that are in full dry desert sun for 16+ hours per day in the summer. They are the last plant to need watering, and the last plant to show heat stress (even after some of my succulents).
