I recently was given a juniper bonsai as a gift and am in need of help. I have read that the tree should be kept outside in order for it to go through its natural dormant cycle. My question is this, the tree has been inside for the last three days and I am afraid if I put it outside where its 20F it will be a shock to the tree, what should I do?. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Just being inside for 3 days isn't a problem if it was outside before, but it could well have been sitting in a store for weeks unless you know otherwise. If your weather - daytimes at least - warms up into the high 40's or more for a few days (during which you could have it outside before leaving it there 24/7) you may be stuck trying to manage inside til after the last frost has gone in late April-May. Problem is, your winters get too cold even if it had been acclim'd and you'd have to have it well mulched in a larger pot in a shed or porch, etc. However, if you keep it inside now, go for the coolest place you have that gets light for the longest hours a day (I know!). Don't spray it, but place a wide tray of stones and water under the pot, but don't allow water to touch the pot bottom. Water only when more-than-less of the soil is dry.

Lucy: Thank you for the advice I will do my best to keep it alive until spring and then transfer the tree outside. Again thank you for the advice.
