Bonsai ID + Care - is she sick?

Hello all,

My sister got this Bonsai as a gift about a month ago and we would very much like to know what species it is (I am attaching photos to aid in identification).

She has been watering it every third day by soaking the base and spraying the leaves as well. It sits in a bright window that gets no direct sun; she is in San Diego California.

Some leaves look terrific and green and bright, but others seem to be having more trouble and are brown, crinkly, and falling off.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Looks like a variegated Serissa to me. And it looks to be dying because it is a Serissa. They are the toughest plants for a beginner. You move them ever so slightly and they drop leaves and die.

Tell her to stop spraying the leaves, and just water from the top of the soil.

I can't help with the ID, but I'll hazard that it needs real sunlight (and probably needs to
go outside).

Next order of business would be to re-pot the tree in a proper soil mix....
but I'm not sure when the best time would be.
