i bought a powder puff tree that is now about 5 years old. to me the tree still lookes very healthy and is growing well. my question is how do i trim the tree so it produces those wonderful little "puffs" of color. I know the tree can still produce them because sometimes when i trim the tree i must cut in the right spot and the flower apprears. i have the tree sitting in a window that recieves plenty of sun and i water it about every 3-4 days. should i be using some fetilizer? (i do use the fertilizer suggested by Brussels Bonsai about once a month) Any suggestions?

To you a window indoors may appear to have plenty of sun, but to a plant it's dull compared to even a dull day outside. Most plants need lots of light to flower, and by cutting it, you may in fact cut off latent buds, but if you've had experience with that tree, and it worked, why not just repeat what you did, or do you just not know where to cut (and when matters too - spring is usually best). You should be fertilizing every 10 days-2 weeks in spring and summer, monthly in winter with a fertilizer that has a higher middle number (of the usual 3) on the label, to encourage flowering.

thanks for the info about the window. i will try to get a sun light. the problem with the flowering, i do not know what i did when i cut it back. i had no reason to cut other than to shape it. i will also look at my fertilizer and check the middle number. thanks for the help.
