Baobab

Hello Ya'all,

I read recently that African Baobab trees are good for bonzai. I only briefly saw it in once place and was wondering if any of you could comment about that. As i'm still fairly new at bonzai, what would I be getting into if I went down that road?

Thanks.

RE: Baobab

They're a difficult species for a first bonsai, or so I've heard. I really like the look, of course, but I don't feel that I'm ready for the undertaking...not yet...

You might consider a Boojum, for a small, slow-growing plant with *similar* characteristics. Excellent for bonsai and for growing that fat trunk.

I'll see if I can scrounge up some info on Baobab.

Try the Search function at the bottom of the page. And welcome aboard! Read, ask lots of questions, and post a New Topic rather than bumping an old, old thread...many of the past posters here have moved on.

RE: Baobab

Hi, baobabs are strange, but not undoable if you follow the steps. There's a whole website on them (as bonsai) and if you Google it you shouldn't have a problem. One caution (if you already have one) they should have NO water at all between Oct/Nov. and March/April, if then.
