Mail-order concerns

My ficus religiosa (bo tree) just came in a few minutes ago. I ordered it from Glassworks company. I ordered it by air mail to make it get here the fastest possible, as to not have to stay in a box any longer than it had to. I opened up the box, and it was packed in shredded paper. There were two plants, the tree I ordered and a gardenia something or other. The gardenia was very healthy looking, however the ficus looks rough. the leaves are spotted with brown and wilted looking. The soil is very very wet. Doesn't look good at all.

I was wondering if the tree was salvagable, and if so what I could do to "nurse it back to health". It obviously doesn't need water. I put it on a humidity tray like my other ficus, and put it in the south facing window. I keep my curtain wrapped around the table that the plants are on during the day to keep a warm temp inside, and at night I take the curtain off so not to trap in the cold. My other ficus is doing very well under these conditions. I just need to know if there is anything special I should do to it. I was also wondering when it would be safe to spray it with pesticide/mite killer/fungicide. Also if ficus religiosa was sensative to sulfer. It's not on the list of things sensative to it on the fungicide bottle, but I'm not sure.

Anyways, thanks again for the help.

Here are some pictures of the tree as it is right now:

Just let it dry out and give it time to recover. Same advice you got on the other forum I think.

RE: Concerns about new ficus

So Sorry! Got this confused with your other posting on this forum (I remember the curtain thingy). But really there's not much you can do except call Glassworks, tell them it was sent out too wet (especially for a ficus) and has gone rotten... can they send you another?

I don't know if they will or not. There was a pencil written note on the packet of papers they sent with it (the bill, a page with info to call them if something is missing, a ran-off copy of some inspection thing, and a page to order something else if I wanted to) that says: "Winter foliage - to sprout out you'll need to use 55 - 66 degree F bottom heat."

I figure if I do call and said they sent it to me rotten, they'll just say "Oh that's the winter foliage don't worry about it." So I dunno.

You know, with such a defeatist attitude, you ain't gonna get far in life! For heaven's sake pick up the phone - nothing at all to lose. It's your money (and your ongoing patronage) that they want, and they'll get it if they feel they've done a good job - this way you'll probably never order from them again and it would be a shame, because they are a good site normally. Someone may just have gone overboard on the water (a new employee maybe) without thinking of what the plant was, and I'm sure they'd like to know about it.

ehhh I'll call them in the morning I guess.

Actually I'll get my mother to call. Places never seem to take me seriously even though I'm 18. I called the vet today to schedule an appointment for my sick siamese cat that I had adopted from the pound a few days ago. He has an upper respiratory infection and isn't doing so hot. We had taken him in 3 days ago and he was put on medication and such. However, this morning he was having a lot of trouble breathing so I wanted to bring him in to get checked out. The lady on the phone just gave me attitude so I gave the phone to my mom to handle it. But yeah, I'll see what I can do. They better not charge me for shipping the new plant, and make me ship them the sick one.

Good for you - and let me know how it comes out!

There is no such thing as winter foliage on a Ficus that I know of. Sounds to me like something from a cow, and I don't mean milk.

Vance, would you be referring to the mass coming from the south end of a north facing bovine :-) ?
