They say that kumquat trees can't be grown from seed because they have week roots. I have 2 seed grown kumquat trees, 1 meiwa &1 nagami. The only thin week about the roots is they grow very little and are to small for the tree above them and the tree doer not grow but a 1/2 inch at a time. Is this what we look for in bonsai characteristics.

20 month old meiwa with stubby limbs.

Nagami kumquat with short gangly roots
Roots will take year to reach their container wall. Should I just trim off the tip of the branches.
Has any one used a kumquat tree for an on own roots kumquat bonsai.
Thanks
