| Hi there.
I just bought a Maple bonsai kit,(seeds). The box is rather confusing. The company name seems to be "Miniature Indoor Bonsai tree garden" by 'The Master Herbalist". The kit came in a purple and green small rectangular box. It says both " Canadian Sugar Maple tree" and below that "Acer Saccharinum". Looking online reveals that it's the Acer SaccharUM that is the sugar maple, while the -rinum is another type altogether. Either way, what little information I am finding conflicts with my box about it being an indoor plant. I am eager to plant it right away, but I've read a bit about dormant periods. Do I need to wait until spring to plant this tree? Will planting it now only confuse it? Has anyone else been able to find info on growing/caring for these particular trees online? Is there a way to know for sure which tree I have? I'm stumped! I am hoping this is in deed an indoor plant that won't need a dormant period! I don't have an outdoors area! Does anyone else name their trees?? Thanks! |

| I hope you didn't pay a lot for that hokey piece of $#@%! Throw it out. First - Acer saccharinum IS the proper Latin name for sugar maple (Acers are all maples, of whatever kind...). Second - the other spelling is a typo (or ignorance) and doesn't exist. Thirdly, if you try and grow a maple indoors it will die. Period. Fourth - don't even think about using it for bonsai (if you manage to germinate whatever's in there) because they're no good for it - huge leaves and long internodes (space between branches) that won't reduce very well even for experienced growers. |

| Kylies, I name some of my trees, but only when they start to show some personality. For example I have: Alluishus (Moreton Bay Fig/Ficus macrophylla), and Barry the Boug (Bougainvillea) Good Luck |
