WANTED: question about trading for snowdrops

Hello Everyone,

I also posted this in the on-topic discussions. I am involved in a trade of some seeds for a few snowdrop bulbs.

I am in zone 7 (New York City) and the person I am trading with is in California. While this time of year is perfectly fine to take snowdrops out of the ground in California I am not sure that it is a good time to put them in the ground in NYC.

Here are my questions:

Could they freeze/die in the mail?

If I do trade, when should I plant them? immediately? after the frost? in the next fall? (can they survive for a year on the shelf?)

Any opinions are welcome

Thanks.

George
