Okay, I'm sure there are others with far more and better knowledge, but I will take a stab at this. You say you dug this up? From an old homesite, perhaps? If so, you may have an antique variety...some of those are lovely and have greenish tinges. We have a double variety in an historic garden where I volunteer...the name escapes me...I will have to think on it.

Old House Gardens is an excellent source of old fashioned bulbs. Also, try some googling. Gosh, it's bothering me that I can't think of the name(s)!

Anyway, Rip Van Winkle is a small variety only 6-8 inches tall...described at OHG as looking a bit like a cactus dahlia (good description).

I couldn't tell from your picture....but, if you have them, you won't mistake them...quite unlike anything else.

Do a search for 'Van Sion' and 'Butter and Eggs' -- old daffodils sometimes are called by several names.

Do the buds look more like minarets, round with a pointed end, rather than slender ovals like the buds of 'King Alfred' and many others?
