Pests eating early bulb sprouts?

Hi everyone! We've had a pretty mild winter here in the Pacific Northwest. I planted a bunch of new stuff this past fall and what I think are iris shot up some long green leaves around Christmas. I just noticed today that they look like they have been trimmed. Clean cuts like with scissors?? Husband didn't touch them, so I'm guessing a critter got to them? I've never seen foliage munched on like this. It didn't look like slug or snail damage, and we don't have squirrels or deer in our yards. We do have tons of birds though... I can include a picture tomorrow when it's light out.

Thanks in advance for any input
Signed,
