For years I have enjoyed the crocuses and daffodils that emerge in early spring under my dogwood tree. While I was away last summer this area was invaded by a tiny weed (no more than 3 inches high) that has become well established. I have tried to eradicate it by pulling it up but even if I were successful it would simply return because this weed seems to be quite common in our neighborhood. Rather that try to fight it I was wondering if I could simply make the area less hospitable for it by planting a ground cover under the tree like vinca.

My question is this: would the bulbs be able to poke up through the vinca?
