Will separating muscari result in more blooms?

Hello Garden Web-ites! It's been awhile.
When I moved into my house 20 years ago I was surprised and delighted with a mound of darling little grape hyacinths in the back yard. It was a dense patch of purple and I loved it. But now the blooms and even leaves are few. Is this because they need to be separated?

Yep. Density stifles, each bulb needs space. Unless the foliage is being consistently mowed which will lead to death of the bulbs.
