Is anyone familiar with a tropical bulb kerkuna?

I was watching HGTV and they showed a plant that looks like a low ginger. The leaf was glossy and bright green it had a red
star like bloom in the center and also came in a varigated cultivar. They called it kerkuna but no matter how I spell
it I can't get it to come up on Google. Usually it will correct my spelling but not this time.does anyone know this plant bulb?
Thanks in advance.

I think you are talking about Curcuma which is a ginger that has a natural dormancy in the dry season of the tropics. I grow these without problem here in PA since they can just be stored totally dry in their pots in my basement for the winter and then wake up when you water in the spring. In your zone they will just go dormant for the "winter". Best of luck finding them.....there are huge numbers of species/cultivars :o) Dan
