What a nifty bloom. Any chance it got some RoundUp drift last year?

Nope - I didn't use RoundUp nor did the neighbors that I know of. I garden mostly organic, except for an occasional carefully controlled insecticide.

Looks like a split corona daff. Maybe a slightly wonky Lemon Beauty???

I don't have Ice King or Lemon Beauty, at least I never planted them. Many years ago I found a bunch of non-flowering daffodils (too much shade) that had been planted by a previous owner when there was more sun in that part of the yard. They apparently managed to grow leaves every year but couldn't build up the bulbs enough to flower.

I moved them to a sunnier spot and they've bloomed every year since then, a mixture of white and mostly white flowers. None of them look like this, though.

It does look like a split corona daffodil, floral_uk. I've never planted any but maybe this is a spontaneous mutation of something or other (or maybe the squirrels found one in another yard - they sometimes move things around here).

The early time of flowering is also surprising. The later daffodils in my yard aren't flowering yet: Chromacolor, Fragrant Rose, Geranium, Sir Winston Churchill, Thalia, Hawera. Last year I planted Thalia Sun, also a late bloomer.

Many years ago I planted Felindre in that part of the garden but it petered out, and doesn't look like this.

I suppose it's also possible that the new daffodil was mixed in with some of the daffodils I bought and just didn't get grown enough to bloom until now.

I'll keep an eye on the clump to see if another stalk comes up, and wait for next year. Luckily, I love volunteers - unexpected gifts from Mother Nature (so long as it's not poison ivy).
