 o
Crocus help please?

My first crocuses and I enjoyed the purple blooms but now they are finished, showing just the green leaves/stems. I would like to move them to another part of my yard. Can I do this now? Do I remove the greenery?

No, absolutely do not remove the leaves. They are making next years corms. Dig up the plants now, if you wish, with a good lump of the earth they are in and transplant immediately to where you want them. Water them in and make sure they don't dry out. Leave the foliage to die down naturally.

Alternatively, mark where they are and wait until the leaves die down. Then move the corms. Personally I move all sorts of bulbs 'in the green'. Just try not to to let the bulbs know you have moved them.

Got ya loud and clear! I promise to leave the green. lol
Just out of curiosity, do you leave the green on all bulbs? I know they do with tulips and daffodils. Thank you very much for your help with this. I am really glad I asked first.

Always allow foliage to ripen on all bulbs, corms, tuberous roots (dahlias ?), etc.

Thank you iris gal. So, when you leave the leaves in tact, until they turn brown, this called 'ripening'?
I will remember to leave the green stems on all the bulbs. Thanks again for your help.

Bulb leaves.....

Leave them even when they start to turn yellow and look yucky.

Leave them until they are totally dried up and pull off easily.

Don't wad them up and rubber band them even though local landscaping crews do this. They aren't worried about them being perennials.

Do dead head the flower stalks though...
