Tulip Bulbs from Pots

Let me start by saying I am NOT a gardener. I would, however, like to start trying to keep some stuff alive so please bear with me as I ask stupid questions!

I purchased potted tulips from a fundraiser in February this year. The leaves are all gone from the pots now and I am wondering if I can plant the bulbs in my yard so they will come back next year?

If I have to keep the bulbs and not plant them until fall, please advise the best way to keep them (i.e., leave them in the pots, take them out and take them inside, etc.?). Thanks.

Danette

RE: Tulip Bulbs from Pots

There are lots of posts on returning tulips if you do a search of this forum.

Briefly it's unlikely they will naturalize. If you have a spot with excellent drainage that doesn't receive much summer water, plant them with a little bonemeal or low nitrogen fertilizer in the hole.
