Pitiful tulips

This is my first spring in my new house in the pacific northwest. A few tulips came up in a bed in my back yard, but they are pathetic and only one bloomed (behind a tree where no one can see it no less!) I suspect the previous owner cut the foliage back early last year so his landscaping would look nice for listing and showing the house.

Anyway, should I let the tulips do their thing and hope they come back next year or pull them up and start from scratch in the fall?

Lots of posts on tulips and differing opinions. Much to be learned there.

Me, I would let the foliage die back. The I'd move the bloomer out from behind the tree. And let Mother Nature take her course.

It sounds like you are not getting enough chilling for naturalization of tulips for multiple year blooming. Check with other tulip gardeners in your area. Al

I'm in the pacific nw as well and we actually has a colder than normal winter with that crazy snow storm, so that shouldn't be it.. However they might be a few years old, I find tulips here only seems to last a few years.
