I would cut off only the seed heads, try to keep the foliage intact as much as possible and replant.

IMO the risk for damage is much higher when you store them.
You could splitt the clumps, if they are very crowded.

Otherwise I would replant with the soil on the roots (if they are not too huge to handle).

and you could still keep the nice ones, ditch the ones you didn`t like and get some new bulbs in early autumn.

Thanks for the advice.. we have a lot. Our yard trailer (4ft x 6ft x 1.5 ft) is full of loose bulbs and the wheelbarrow is full with four huge clumps that it took both of us to lift and load.

retiredguy627 it would help a lot to know where you are gardening. Just yesterday I dug a about a hundred daffs from among my peonies. They were through blooming about a month ago. Because they grow like weeds here, we do not worry about losing some,we always have too many. I just laid them out in the shade and will let the foliage die down naturally before severing from the bulbs. I will clean and dry the bulbs and store in a cool dry place until fall when I will replant. Al

My vote is for replanting ASAP. The bulbs will store much better in the ground than anywhere else.

I did not mean to imply that daffs NEED to be dug, they keep perfectly in the ground. My better half prefers to see color during the summer, other than green daffodil foliage in the dying stages. I try to have summer blooming plantings ready to replace removed daffs, after working a little compost into the soil. Al
