You may not prefer to plant them in the ground (for many reasons, including not knowing their color or not knowing their permanent position) but I would still recommend to plant them in pots.

Let them have the growing season to develop, even if you want to trim it and keep it down to a certain size without letting it mature to a flower/seed ending.

Let's just say they WON'T last until next season. These - Acidanthera murielae/Gladiolus callianthus - are tender perennial bulbs not considered winter hardy below zone 7. And they only come in one color - white :-)

I recommend planting them in containers for sure - the soil warms up faster so they will flower earlier and it is easier to pull and store for winter than having to dig them up each season.

Thank you all for your help...I decided to go ahead and trade them for bulbs to plant in the fall. I love the plant exchange forum!
