Almost all the plants in this family have an large basal bulb meaning they are tolerant of drought. Water when the top 3 - 4" of soil gets dry; don't soak, just keep the soil moist.

I have them here and they get no summer water, from me or from rain, and do just fine. Amaryllis belladonna are a plant that thrives on neglect and will send up the flower stem in August right through the weeds. Al
