What is this???

Walked into my newly mowed, tree free yard and stumbled upon this little guy! Someone said pinecone? But it has roots! Thought maybe a bird or bunny dropped it...and we don't have pine trees in our area. I'm thinking a bulb of sorts, I planted it as an experiment for now in a small pot on my sunny windowsill....but I'd love to know what it is!! Any thoughts? Its about 3/4 inch in diameter.

You might want to try posting at the link below and also give your location.

You might want to edit your zone in your profile to give a clue about what part of zone 9a you are in. See I am 5/6 S INdiana

Here is a link that might be useful: Name that plant.
