Plant what ever you have now. There is no advantage to watching the bulbs get weaker as long as they are kept from growing. The longer you wait the less you can expect. Al

Thanks Al - Just what I was also thinking - except we have a water main break to add to the heat spell in our area, and so for the past week we've had to limit water usage.
Will need to wait it out to weekend atleast and hope they fix the situation, then I plan to plant them!

Water main break? Use the 'greywater' . If you wash your hands after using the bathroom - using bar soap and a basin - then you can use that water on the garden. Or save the rinse water from doing the washing. (I know it's hard work. Do it every year we have a long dry spell. Worth it, IMO.)

PS Remember to plant the Paeonies with their growing tips just below the surface, and the Dahlias, or you'll get leaves but not flowers. Add plenty of yummy compost. :-)

That is such a good idea!
I'm surprised I didn;t think of it myself as living in India nearly 30 years ago we were so used to working with running water for just an hour or two only and that too at ungodly hours like 5.30 - 7.30 am or something, and we still had a beautiful garden! You get comfortable with things and stop being creative!
And it just so happens one of the callas is named "Calla (New Zealand) Majestic Red"!!
Will keep in mind your tips on the peonies and dahlias... tomorrow's planting day!!
