Hardy Lily Bulbs in pot--how to overwinter in zone 4?

Hi all,

Posted this in the Lilies forum, but this forum seems more recently active, so I figured I'd ask here, too. I don't have room to plant lilies in my garden at the moment, so I was thinking of putting some in pots. This seems a common enough practice but I've found some conflicting info on how the overwintering process works. I figured I would simply plant them in a large (2 gallon) pot in October, since fall is the time to plant bulbs, then let them sit out until spring, but I've read several places that too much "water" rots the bulbs. Well, I'm in zone 4, where we are blanketed in snow for several months of the year. So my question is, what do I do with my lilies in pots? Should I put them in the basement or something? Or a shed? Help!?

Thanks in advance for any advice you might have on this :)
