What do I do with my Alocasia?

Hi All,
I bought an alocasia in the spring and now that winter is here I have to do something with it. I brought the giant beast in my house and it takes up a lot of room. Trouble is this plant throws a lot of water. I have a few dozen drips on my carpet.
Is it possible to just cut the plant down and store it somehow? I think its a bulb type alocasia but not 100% sure. It looks like a Alocasia macrorrhiza but I'm not an expert.
Thanks for any ideas? I don't want it to ruin my carpet.

| Yes, you can cut it down and store it in your basement. It will fare better leaving it in the pot. I have stored Alocasia bulb/tuber - whatever it's called, in a pot and soil. It did fine the following spring. Allow the soil to dry up somewhat so that the bulb will not rot. Spritz the soil once in a while in winter if the soil is very dry. Or you can lift the tuber, wash it well then store it in a bucket cover the tuber with peat moss. I store Canna rhizomes the same way. Good luck. |
