I would compensate at least a bit if putting on mulch 2-3" thick. I'd plant them a bit more shallow, like plant at 4" instead of 5". In my opinion, planting depth need not be exact and bulbs will be fine.

Planting Daffodil bulbs a bit on the shallow side, usually causes them to multiply a bit faster than what they normally would.
