How early does Allium gladiator produce foliage

I bought some Gladiator allium on clearance and I need to choose a spot where they will get enough sun when the foliage is active. My choice spot will receive a good amount of sun in early and mid spring, but not in late spring. From information I can find, the foliage will begin to die around the time that the plant flowers in late spring, but I cannot find information about when the leaves emerge. If the leaves come out early, my site may provide enough sun for them to thrive. Does anyone know approximately when the leaves are produced?

Even if the leaves emerge a month or month and a half before bloom they will need sun during and after bloom to produce food for the bulb.

How about potting them? During bloom it can be placed for enjoyment and the remaining 'leaf time' be placed in full sun. I have success doing that with the smaller ones that accept our climate.
